st paul de vence

Perched on a hilltop in the south of France, Saint-Paul-de-Vence is one of the Riviera’s most charming medieval villages. In the early 20th century, painters like Signac, Modigliani, and Soutine were drawn to its extraordinary light, and the Colombe d’Or inn became a legendary gathering place where artists famously paid for their meals and rooms with canvases. Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, and Braque all passed through, and Chagall chose to live here. Today the village is filled with galleries and studios, and the Fondation Maeght, a celebrated modern art museum just outside the walls, cements its reputation as a place where art feels woven into everyday life.
